Frankfort, Ky. (March 12, 2021) — EdChoice KY President Charles Leis released the following statement on House Bill 563:
“We are thrilled to see the historic House Bill 563 move on to the Kentucky Senate, and each of the representatives who voted in favor of supporting educational choice for Kentucky families should be commended. We would also like to extend our thanks to Speaker David Osborne and Majority Whip Chad McCoy on their tenacity in seeing this through, as well as Rep. Jerry Miller on introducing a floor amendment expanding school choice options to nonpublic school families in Jefferson, Fayette, and Kenton Counties.
While we wish all students in Kentucky could have access to comprehensive educational choice through HB 563, the bill is definitely a significant step in the right direction. Excepting tuition to nonpublic schools, all the other educational services are available to families outside the above counties.
We encourage the Kentucky Senate to, at a minimum, uphold HB 563 and allow students in Jefferson, Fayette and Kenton Counties more options than ever before.
Access to educational options—including nonpublic school tuition—is a vital need and House Bill 563 will go a long way in helping Kentucky families secure the education that best suits their children.”
