Western Kentucky Shows Off School Choice Enthusiasm

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2022) – EdChoice Kentucky bookended its National School Choice Week celebration with a rally at St. Joseph Interparochial School in Bowling Green today. Students, teachers and school choice advocates gathered to show their support for educational opportunities in the Commonwealth for the weeklong commemoration, lasting January 23rd-29th. 

“Families in every corner of Kentucky deserve the opportunity to design the right learning environment for their children,” said EdChoice Kentucky President Andrew Vandiver. “We came to Western Kentucky to show the broad, statewide enthusiasm for the expansive school choice program that became law last year.” 

“Seeing a student’s eyes light up with a love of learning is one of the greatest rewards in our line of work,” said Rodney Schwartz, principal of St. Joseph. “That’s the difference the right education can make for a young person both today and into the future. I’m proud to support school choice because I’ve seen the difference it can make throughout a student’s entire life.”

“I’m encouraged to see so many people of all ages fired up about school choice in Kentucky. It’s the right thing to do for our students, for their parents and for the future of our Commonwealth,” said Dr. Gary Houchens, professor of educational administration at Western Kentucky University and former public school teacher. “National School Choice Week is a time to show the strong support for a student-first approach to education.”

A recent poll from National School Choice Week showed more than half of parents said they were considering, or had considered in the last year, choosing a new or different school for one of their children.
